Run on Stability

Superb handling continues in the Honda CR-V. The solid body is designed to define a new standard for torsional and bending rigidity. Bodyshell weight is down 31kg from before, but this is compensated by extensive use of high-tensile steel which stiffens the structure.

This is aided by the unique relationship between the new suspension setup and Real Time 4-Wheel Drive™ system. And the CR-V's supple side is the result of fusing wider tires with McPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspensions. This new geometry lowers the centre of gravity by 35mm, bringing lateral balance to a new level of control.

Simultaneously, Real Time 4-Wheel Drive™ system automatically uses dual hydraulic pumps to transfer power to the rear wheels if there is a sudden loss of grip in the front tyres.

Everything is done to ensure the Honda CR-V is accurately poised over bumps, sharp turns and coarse roads.

And at all times, the correctly-weighted steering transmits feedback on road traction, speed and stability into your hands.

Honda's original Realtime 4WD

The system supplies FWD (front-wheel drive) operation in ordinary conditions, switching to 4WD on demand depending on driving condtions. An enlarged clutch and stiffened transmission parts help distribute 20% additional torque to the rear wheels.
Light yet solid monocoque body
