The year was 1976. Raising the benchmark for next generation sedans
The first generation Accord was designed according to the concept of a compact car that was practical and looked stylish and sporty. While there were numerous compact sedans present in the Japanese market, the US’ demand for four-door sedans were low and the Civic’s three-door hatchback style had been successful in both countries. This spurred the Honda design team to work with a three-door hatchback for the Accord.
Fast forward to current times, the much-anticipated New Accord is set to push boundaries with its Absolute Acclaim stylish design, giving it a bolder appearance on the road. The 10th Generation Accord has a wider stance, lower roofline and longer hood, as well as Honda’s signature chrome wing front grille, full LED headlights and taillights. Completing the super sleek exterior is the 18-inch Alloy Wheels With Resonator* that reduces tyre noise by applying a resonator to the wheel.
Meanwhile, the interior of the New Accord revolves around the Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum design philosophy. In 2000, California produced the first Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) Accord. Continuing the legacy of energy efficient and eco-friendly vehicles, the New Accord has been awarded the Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status, providing maximum fuel efficiency. A maximum torque of 260Nm also makes the New Accord more powerful than a car equipped with a 2.4L engine. The executive sedan is available in two variants – 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged (TC) and 1.5L VTEC Turbocharged Premium (TC-P).
Awarded five-star safety rating by ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), the New Accord also sets the standards for safety and stays true to providing the most comprehensive safety technology in a sedan. This is in line with the Accord’s history of utmost safety with the 2005 Accord’s side-curtain airbags, for example, which were a defining factor in other manufacturer’s decisions to include the same feature in their vehicles.
Similarly, the 2008 Accord contains the exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure designed for enhanced frontal-collision compatibility with other vehicles. Next, the Driver Attention Monitor helps alert drivers when it detects a diversion in the driver’s attention.
The New Accord also solves one of the biggest headaches when driving around the city – parking. This advanced sedan comes with Smart Parking Assist System with Brake Assist (Rear)* that recognises the border of the parking space. This helps the driver with automatic steering assist alongside a visual guide on the 8” Advanced Display Audio screen, voice guidance, and auto braking assist when an obstacle within range is detected. All the vehicle’s information can be conveniently viewed with a high contrast 7” Interactive TFT Meter Cluster display.
This flagship sedan is also equipped with additional safety technologies like the Multi-view Camera System (360° Camera)*, which helps drivers by displaying the surrounding blind spots on the navigation screen and the Cross Traffic Monitor (CTM)* that uses radar sensors to monitor the rear corner of the car when reversing. Another new feature is the Electric Parking Brake with Brake Assist, which makes it easier to engage and disengage the parking brake with touch of a button during the usual rush hour traffic.
