Many have heard of the name "Malacca" due to its historical landmarks and a popular tourist destination. Over the years, Malacca has evolved into a well-developed and vibrant city in Malaysia.

However, in the quest for progress and development, the Malacca local council, Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB) aims to achieve a balance of Eco and Technology between the private sector and MBMB through the "Green Earth" programme - towards a greener, cleaner and more beautiful historical city of Malacca.

Responding to this call, Honda Malaysia whose manufacturing plant is located at Alor Gajah in Malacca, has initiated a tree-planting campaign, "MBMB With Honda Move Towards Greener Malacca" involving Honda management and 200 Honda associates together with council members of MBMB. Over a period of two days, 14th July and 21st July 2011, the group planted a total of 530 trees at Taman Bandaraya Bukit Serintit and Sungai Melaka.

On the first session, YB Datuk MD Yunos Bin Husin, State Committee Chairman of Housing, Local Government and Environment was pleased to note that Honda Malaysia and Malacca City Council are willing to contribute their time and resources to increase more greens and to clean the city. He also shared his hope that this event will help to increase awareness and encourage its residents to contribute in making Malacca greener.

Vice President of Honda Malaysia, Mr. Yuji Matsuzaki, Senior General Manager of Honda Malaysia Dato Azhar Bin Abd Wahab, Representative of Malacca City and State Committee Chairman of Housing, Local Government and Environment were present to lend a helping hand in the tree-planting exercise, which started off with a warm-up session.

The second session of tree planting & gotong-royong session were held on 21st July 2011 at the Sungai Melaka near the Casa Del Rio Hotel. This time around, General Manager of Honda Malaysia, Mr. Azminuddin Mohamad led the team of Honda Malaysia associates in the activity.

Globally, Honda is committed to the preservation of environment through environmental initiatives such as this to help realise a sustainable society for future generations.

Understanding the importance of giving back to the society and being a responsible corporate citizen, Honda Malaysia continues its commitment to be an organization that society wants it to exist. This tree-planting activity for Honda Malaysia together with the local council of Malacca is in line with the government's mission to resolve global warming issues through the increase of green plants. It also part of an effort to support the objective of achieving a total of 20 millions trees planted by year 2020.

Through this joint activity, Honda Malaysia hopes to help maintain a positive image for Malacca as a popular tourist destination and to be involved in more similar activities in the near future.
